Trump suddenly changes his mind, Tusk speaks out

„We should maximize the next 90 days” – this was Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s reaction on the X platform regarding US President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend extra tariffs on Wednesday evening.
The US President Donald Trump declared a 125 percent tariff on China. Simultaneously, he mandated a 90-day pause in the enforcement of heightened tariffs on other nations. During this period, tariffs are set to be at 10 percent.
Trump attributed his choice to suspend tariffs to the outreach from over 75 nations that have approached U.S. officials to seek a resolution to prevailing trade disputes.

Prime Minister Tusk: collective accountability
„The preservation of strong transatlantic ties is a mutual responsibility of both Europeans and Americans, irrespective of momentary upheavals,” stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk on the X platform. „Therefore, let’s utilize the upcoming 90 days effectively,” he continued.
„This is a significant first step towards reducing tensions” – Finance Minister Andrzej Domański remarked on the shift in the customs policy of the American government. „We need to prioritize rationality over emotions, with an emphasis on economic growth,” added the Finance Minister.
„This strategy proves most effective”
Friedrich Merz, who is expected to be the next German chancellor, also weighed in on Trump’s policy shift. „The Europeans have come together in their defense, demonstrating that this strategy is most effective,” Merz stated, suggesting that „we should implement 0 percent tariffs on all transatlantic trade, which would resolve the issue.”
Giancarlo Giorgetti, Italy’s Minister of Economy and Finance, informed the press that G7 members deliberated on how to react to Donald Trump’s tariffs.
„Within the G7, all members except the United States discussed how to ease the situation and encourage the Trump administration to engage in dialogue and adopt a sensible stance,” Giorgetti said, expressing that Italy welcomed Trump’s decision to delay many tariff hikes for 90 days.
A spokesperson for the British government stated that the UK would approach negotiations for a trade deal with the United States „calmly and rationally.” „A trade war benefits no one. We wish to avoid any tariffs,” he mentioned.
