The Entrepreneurship Council appeals for support for the Barlinek Group

The Entrepreneurship Council, comprising the foremost business organizations in Poland, has urged immediate measures to assist the Barlinek Group following the Russian drone strike on its factory located in Vinnytsia. „Immediate direct financial support and the implementation of systemic solutions are essential,” the statement asserts.
On Wednesday, Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski reported that Russian drones had targeted the Barlinek Group factory in Vinnytsia, Ukraine. Barlinek does not expect to restart production for at least six months.
Appeal from the Entrepreneurship Council
The Entrepreneurship Council indicated in its correspondence that the Barlinek company is unable to secure compensation for losses incurred due to war activities.
„The Russian assault was intentional, and there is a significant likelihood that we may see similar incidents in the future, particularly regarding the participation of Polish firms in Ukraine, which, according to the Centre for Eastern Studies, amounted to USD 780 million by the end of 2023,” the statement detailed.
Furthermore, it was noted that Polish entrepreneurs play „a vital role in fostering the development of the Ukrainian economy, which is crucial for the stability of this nation and the security of Poland.”
We are advocating for financial aid for the Barlinek Group, compensation for incurred losses, and support in restoring its production capabilities – potentially utilizing frozen Russian assets within the EU, as discussed at the EU-Ukraine summit. Should delays occur, the financial burden should fall on state authorities, whose actions would convey a clear message that Polish enterprises operating in Ukraine can rely on assistance during challenging times.
The Council also emphasizes that additional attacks could jeopardize not only the Ukrainian economy but also European security.
Thus, it is imperative to swiftly develop and execute a systemic response framework for such scenarios – including the establishment of funds, guarantees, prompt compensation disbursement, and collaboration with Ukrainian authorities. Poland, as a frontrunner in aiding Ukraine, should galvanize efforts at both national and European levels to shield entrepreneurs from further threats. These initiatives are not just necessary but also strategically vital in light of the escalating Russian aggression. We believe that together we can devise effective solutions, enabling Polish businesses to operate in Ukraine without concerns for their security and future.
This appeal has been endorsed by several organizations: Business Centre Club, Federation of Polish Entrepreneurs, Lewiatan Confederation, National Chamber of Commerce, Polish Business Council, Employers of Poland, Polish Bank Association, Association of Business Service Leaders ABSL, and the Polish Craft Association.
The Barlinek Group specializes in manufacturing layered wooden flooring and exports to 75 countries. The company is owned by Michał Sołowow.
