The President of the Management Board of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa, Krzysztof Trofiniak, has stepped down from his role, as announced by the company in an official statement. The current Management Board of PGZ is comprised of four members.

Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa is among the largest defense companies in Europe—a capital group that unites numerous industrial facilities, service centers, and research institutions vital to the Polish defense sector. PGZ, as noted on the corporation’s website, is also involved in the production of cutting-edge systems and solutions utilized by the Polish Armed Forces and allied troops.

One board member of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa, who wished to remain anonymous, informed PAP that Trofiniak resigned on Wednesday afternoon, citing personal reasons. Currently, the PGZ board includes Arkadiusz Bąk, Marcin Idzik, Piotr Zawieja, and Jan Grabowski.

The Ministry of State Assets announced on portal X that the ministry’s head, Jakub Jaworowski, along with deputy head, Konrad Gołota, expressed their gratitude to Trofiniak for his contributions to the arms sector thus far, highlighting the recent successes of PGZ under his leadership.

This pertains to the signing of the inaugural executive agreement for the provision of 111 Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles for the Polish Army, valued at over PLN 6.5 billion, and PGZ’s request to the Capital Investment Fund for the recapitalization of the production of 155 mm artillery shells.

Minister of National Defense on the President of PGG

Trofiniak was appointed President of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa SA on 22 March 2024 and commenced his responsibilities three days afterward.

Media outlets have been speculating for several weeks regarding Trofiniak’s potential resignation, reporting that the Ministry of National Defense intended to dismiss him due to the sluggish production of 155 mm ammunition, critical for heavy artillery.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz evaluated in mid-March that the „bottleneck” in investments within the arms industry and the transformation of the armed forces lies in the readiness of companies to implement these investments and ramp up production. The Deputy Prime Minister was then questioned by journalists regarding his view on the collaboration between the Ministry of National Defense and the Polish Armaments Group, as well as rumors about Trofiniak’s possible resignation.

At that time, the head of the Ministry of National Defense remarked that the PGZ board had been in operation „for a brief period, and it has accomplished a great deal,” but it recognizes that even more can be achieved. He concurrently stated that the claim suggesting the Ministry of National Defense was exerting pressure for the resignation of the PGZ president was unfounded. The minister elaborated that the Ministry of National Defense is „insisting on timely deliveries, and not all PGZ facilities are meeting these deadlines,” and is advocating for „a contract for a Polonized version of the K2 tank,” which has not yet been finalized.

From the onset of his professional journey, which has spanned 25 years, Trofiniak has been associated with Huta Stalowa Wola SA and the Research and Development Center for Earth and Transport Machines. Between 2008 and 2015, he served as president and general director of HSW SA. Prior to that, he held positions on the management board as commercial director, and led the Technical Office of Production Preparation at HSW SA, as well as serving as the director of production and technology in HSW-Trading sp. z o. o.
