Compensation for Lux Veritatis. PZU goes to the prosecutor's office

PZU has submitted a notification to the prosecutor’s office regarding a potential crime related to the payment of improper compensation to the Lux Veritatis foundation, as confirmed by the company to tvn24.pl. The head of the foundation is Tadeusz Rydzyk. As reported by RMF FM, this pertains to a payment of PLN 10 million associated with the Geotermia Toruńska project. Simultaneously, a firm from the Orlen Group was expected to disburse the same amount.
Zbigniew Baranowski, the media relations director at PZU, informed the business editorial team of tvn24.pl that „the prosecutor’s office was notified by PZU on March 27 of this year.”
– However, we refrain from commenting on prosecutorial processes, will not share our perspective on this issue, and we will not outline our strategy for rectifying the damages caused by the erroneous Lux Veritatis payment until the prosecutorial proceedings have concluded – emphasized Zbigniew Baranowski.

According to RMF FM, this involves a payment of PLN 10 million in compensation to a foundation linked to Father Tadeusz Rydzyk in relation to the Geotermia Toruńska project. The new leadership at PZU believes this action was detrimental to the company and constituted fraud against foreign entities working with the insurer.
This issue was mentioned last year during an episode of „One on One” on TVN24 by Deputy Minister of State Assets Robert Kropiwnicki. – Tadeusz Rydzyk was regarded by all companies as a golden calf. (…) Very few individuals could comprehend that a loss occurred in 2009, was reported in 2020, meaning after 10 years, and in 2023 they were awarded 10 million in compensation – stated the deputy head of MAP in August 2024.

As reported by RMF FM, „10 million from PZU for the Lux Veritatis foundation associated with Tadeusz Rydzyk might be just half of the total compensation the foundation received regarding a claim related to geothermal drilling in Toruń. The other half was meant to be provided by Exalo Drilling from the Orlen Group.”
„It has been revealed that the settlement with the foundation was a tripartite agreement. Besides the state insurer, the Exalo company was also involved – it is the legal successor of the PNiG Jasło company, which in 2009 drilled a geothermal well for the foundation connected to Tadeusz Rydzyk,” RMF FM reported.
We reached out to the Orlen Group’s press office regarding this matter. By the time this article was published, we had yet to receive a reply to our inquiries.
