A new regulation developed by the Ministry of Infrastructure indicates that train operators will no longer be required to use sound signals prior to certain railway crossings.

Under the updated regulation regarding railway traffic management, train operators are exempt from using the Rp1 „Attention” sound signal at crossings where barriers or sound and light signals are present.

As stated by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Minister Dariusz Klimczak approved the regulation on April 15, and it will become effective 14 days after being published in the Journal of Laws.

Impact of public feedback

The Ministry highlighted that this regulatory change is partly a response to numerous requests from residents living near crossings who have expressed concerns about the noise from audible signals.

The Ministry indicated that once the new regulations take effect, for instance, along the 470 km Warsaw-Poznań route leading to the German border, the number of Rp1 sound signals required before crossings will decrease from 139 to only nine.
