PKP Cargo. The company announces group layoffs

PKP Cargo plans to implement group layoffs, potentially affecting up to 1,041 employees in 2025 and as many as 1,388 individuals from various professional categories in 2026, as stated in a recent press release.
„The management board indicated that, despite the corrective and restructuring measures undertaken thus far regarding employment, the company's circumstances necessitate additional actions. The initiated process is a crucial component of the Restructuring Plan, the specifics of which will be disclosed by the company by the end of June 2025,” the press release noted.
Layoffs at PKP Cargo
It has been stated that the anticipated redundancy measures will be executed by September 30, 2026, with the group layoffs scheduled for this year to be completed by the end of July 2025 at the latest.
„The initiation of discussions with trade unions today regarding the proposal to carry out collective redundancies will allow the Company to submit the Restructuring Plan by the timeline established by the Judge Commissioner,” the release mentions.
Restructuring of PKP Cargo
On July 25, 2024, the District Court in Warsaw initiated the restructuring proceedings for PKP Cargo, determining to commence the restructuring process. The day before, the company’s management had announced group layoffs, initially projected to affect up to 30 percent of the workforce, which equates to approximately 4,142 employees across various professional sectors.

It facilitates independent freight transport within Poland, as well as in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Hungary, Lithuania, and Slovenia.
