Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that with the signing of the implementation agreement for additional K2 tanks, including the first in the Polish variant, Poland is enhancing its capacity to manufacture tanks.

The Minister of Defence is present at the signing ceremony on Friday for the executive agreement to procure an additional 180 K2 tanks, which includes the initial 64 tanks in the K2PL configuration. This agreement, established between the Armament Agency and the South Korean firm Hyundai Rotem, is valued at $6.7 billion.

Minister of National Defence: Poland is enhancing its tank production capacity

Kosiniak-Kamysz, while commemorating the 81st anniversary of the onset of the Warsaw Uprising, highlighted that the agreement was also established to pay tribute to the memory of the insurgents.

„To ensure that their sacrifice of life was not in vain, we needed to learn a challenging lesson, accept it, and understand that as long as we are prepared for the toughest situations, and as long as we invest in our safety, the sacrifice of their lives will never be in vain,” he remarked.

The head of the Ministry of National Defence pointed out that the contract also encompasses the provision of support vehicles along with a comprehensive training, maintenance, and repair package.

He further mentioned that as a result of the agreement, Poland acquires the ability to produce tanks. Of the 64 tanks in the Polish configuration, 61 are to be entirely produced in Poland at the Bumar-Łabędy facility. The first shipments of tanks under the agreement signed on Friday are expected to arrive in Poland next year, with production set to commence between 2028 and 2030.
