Changes for students. The ID card will be available in mObywatel and mLegitymacja
Starting July 1, the mobile student identification available in the mObywatel application will serve as the primary document verifying student status, according to the Ministry of Digital Affairs. Traditional IDs, whether physical or digital, will retain their validity until the expiration date indicated on them.
„The student ID within mObywatel will be universal and accessible to all students across Poland. (…) All currently issued IDs – both physical and digital – will remain valid until their designated expiration” – stated the announcement from the Ministry of Digital Affairs.

As of July 1, mLegitymacja will be incorporated into the mObywatel system by default. Currently, students are required to verify its availability at their university, generate a QR code and a password for activation, and then either scan the code or input the password into the mObywatel application.
„This represents another advancement towards modern, digital public services. The mobile ID will offer the same rights as the physical card – with the distinction that it will always be readily available on the phone. Thanks to the collaboration with @CYFRA_GOV_PL and @MNiSW_GOV__PL, over a million students in Poland will have improved access to their documentation. (…) We are establishing a modern administration that addresses the genuine needs of the youth,” remarked Krzysztof Gawkowski, head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs, in a post on platform X.
mLegitymacja is a mobile application that verifies a student’s identity – it is the digital version of their student ID and carries the same legal validity. This electronic document confirms various entitlements, including discounts on train and bus fares, as well as cinema and theater tickets.

Physical cards available upon request
– The digital ID will always be accessible – within the mObywatel application. We are launching student IDs in mObywatel for over a million students nationwide. I am thrilled that together with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, we are making further progress in digital documentation and services,” stated Deputy Minister of Digital Affairs Dariusz Standerski, as quoted in the press release.
The Ministry of Digital Affairs has announced that students will still have the option to request physical processor cards (i.e., plastic cards equipped with a chip).
