The process for selecting the general contractor for the CPK airport passenger terminal is set to commence in the coming hours, announced Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Tuesday prior to the government meeting.

– I want to inform you – this may also bring an end to the commotion surrounding the Central Communication Port – that in the next few hours, the competitive dialogue process for the general contractor of the airport passenger terminal will initiate. (…) Work has commenced after years of discussion about the necessity for a major airport in central Poland; today this process begins – stated Tusk.

The Prime Minister emphasized that what is paramount is that „we have adopted a special method of proceeding, something that has been in effect for a brief period”. – A method of proceeding that will allow us to prioritize, and we assert this without any pretense otherwise, openly, to favor Polish companies – remarked Prime Minister Tusk.

He mentioned that the total value of tenders that CPK plans to announce this year amounts to PLN 30 billion, with „this initial phase costing PLN 5 billion,” which will cover the terminal’s construction. – The responsibility of the contracting authority, the task of the Central Communication Port company, is to ensure that the procedure is conducted in such a manner that Polish firms gain from these construction contracts – affirmed the Prime Minister.

Construction of CPK

The CPK Program aims to include the establishment of a central airport situated between Warsaw and Łódź, along with a high-speed rail network. The new airport is intended to initially accommodate 34 million passengers annually, designed to allow for flexible expansion over time, in accordance with market growth and demand forecasts.

In December 2024, the government under Donald Tusk approved the CPK Multiannual Program for the years 2024-2032. As per the timeline, construction of the airport in the Baranów, Wiskitki, and Teresin communes is scheduled to commence in 2026. By 2031, the airport is expected to secure the necessary certifications, and by 2032, it should become operational alongside the first section of Poland’s high-speed rail connecting Warsaw – CPK – Łódź. The anticipated investment cost up to 2032 is estimated at PLN 131.7 billion.

The initial proposal for the CPK project was finalized by Mateusz Morawiecki’s government in October 2023. It included plans for the new central airport to be completed by 2030 and outlined the construction of 10 rail lines, which, as stated by PiS politicians, were to drive Poland’s development by creating new transportation links across a network of train connections between Warsaw, Lublin, Rzeszów, Zamość, and Chełm.
