Following the cabinet reshuffle, Czesław Siekierski will step down from his role as Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. Stefan Krajewski will take his place, as announced by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
„After the diligent efforts of Minister Siekierski, Stefan Krajewski is set to become the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development. He has considerable experience from working with his former superior. I am confident that he will bring significant energy to the workings of this ministry,” Tusk stated during a press conference.
Who is Krajewski, the newly appointed Minister of Agriculture?
Krajewski previously held the position of deputy minister of agriculture under Siekierski. According to the ministry’s website, he managed the operations of the Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture and the Agricultural and Food Quality Inspection. He was also tasked with liaising with parliament and the President’s Council for Agriculture and Rural Development.
Krajewski earned his degree from the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science at the University of Warsaw, completed postgraduate studies in the EU common agricultural policy at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, and finished postgraduate MBA studies.
Born in 1981 in Zambrów, he is an active member of the Polish People’s Party and serves as the secretary of the party’s Executive Committee.
Krajewski is a parliament member, elected to the Sejm in October 2023, where he received 9,803 votes. He also served as a parliament member in the prior term.
Since December 18, 2023, he has held the position of Secretary of State in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Krajewski was part of the Podlaskie Voivodeship Board from 2015 to 2018, and served as a councilor for Zambrów County from 2010 to 2014. From 2011 to 2015, he directed the Podlaskie Regional Branch of the Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture (ARiMR). He began his career at the ARiMR County Office in Zambrów in 2004, becoming its manager from 2008 to 2011.
Government reconstruction
During the announcement of the government reshuffle on Wednesday, Tusk expressed optimism that, in line with the agreements with President Andrzej Duda, the new ministers would be sworn in on Thursday.
„The inaugural meeting of the new cabinet will occur on Friday,” Tusk declared. He reassured reporters that the new members of the Council of Ministers „will be available” starting Monday.
He remarked, „There are times in the history of every nation when it’s essential to regroup after events that shake up the political landscape, to maintain composure, to rein in emotions, and to return to work with renewed vigor and confidence.” „This typically involves necessary alterations, including changes in personnel,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
