„I have nothing to reproach myself with.” Statement by Michał R., former member of the Orlen management board

Michał R., who was a former member of the Orlen board and was arrested a few days ago by ABW agents, refutes the accusations of causing harm to Orlen Trading Switzerland and Orlen. He asserts that he will reveal all pertinent details of the case in court.
„I await the court proceedings calmly and hope for them to commence as soon as possible, as I have no reason to blame myself. I am confident that the truth will emerge, and that presenting all relevant information in court will clarify the actual reasons behind the unfulfilled contracts made by OTS and the ongoing difficulties in recovering funds related to them,” Michał R. stated in a message sent to PAP Biznes.

Recently, following a request from the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw, officers from the Internal Security Agency apprehended Michał R., a former member of the Orlen management board, as reported by the spokesperson for the Warsaw Regional Prosecutor’s Office, Prosecutor Mateusz Martyniuk. This is part of an investigation into Orlen Trading Switzerland GmbH (OTS).

The investigation by the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw is focused on losses incurred by OTS GmbH and Orlen, amounting to approximately USD 378 million, equivalent to around PLN 1.5 billion, due to three unfavorable contracts for crude oil purchases made between August 21, 2023, and December 21, 2023.
Additionally, the case file has been supplemented with a notification from the General Inspector of Financial Information regarding suspicions of a crime related to money laundering, linked to actions taken against the interests of OTS and Orlen, which is also included in the ongoing investigation.

„I have offered comprehensive explanations and responded to all inquiries directed at me. I have not confessed to the actions I am charged with, as I am innocent of causing damage to Orlen Trading Switzerland and Orlen,” he noted.
Michał R. was a member of the Orlen Management Board from September 2018 until February 2024. He was responsible for overseeing various areas, including crude oil trading, wholesale distribution of refinery and petrochemical products, logistics, retail sales, and electromobility.
