Retirement of the President
Beyond the „severance pay,” the individual who has served as head of state is granted several notable privileges upon the conclusion of their term.
In this regard, the most frequently mentioned aspect is the presidential pension, which is officially referred to as the emolument of the former President of the Republic of Poland. As outlined in the Act on the emolument of the former President of the Republic of Poland dated May 30, 1996, a departing official is entitled to 75% of the basic salary of the current president.
The base salary for the president is PLN 18,413.12 gross, thus the presidential pension amounts to PLN 13,809.84.
The presidential pension is granted for life, effective upon the end of service—whether through the conclusion of the term or resignation from office.
Additional Benefits for Former Presidents
In addition to this pension, former presidents of Poland also have the right to:
– security within the territory of Poland (they may choose to decline this),
– financial support for maintaining an office under the same conditions and amounts as Members of Parliament receive,
– healthcare benefits for themselves and their families.
