Rainwater. This can result in a fine of up to 10 thousand złoty.

Mismanagement of rainwater can have significant repercussions. Regulations govern the drainage of both rainwater and meltwater. In certain situations, breaking these laws may lead to fines reaching PLN 10,000, or even imprisonment.
As per Polish regulations, discharging rainwater, meltwater, and drainage water into the sanitary sewage system is not allowed. Municipal authorities are tasked with overseeing the drainage of rainwater from properties, frequently collaborating with water and sewage management services.
During inspections, officials verify that rainwater, meltwater, or drainage water is not being directed into the sanitary sewage system. If violations are detected, property owners are required to rectify the issues. Noncompliance may result in financial penalties or imprisonment.
Consequences for inadequate rainwater management
Local government representatives indicate that the sanitary sewage system is not designed to handle rainwater drainage. The influx of rainwater can overwhelm the system, potentially resulting in sewage backflow or infrastructure damage.
„Rainwater also contributes to the failure rates and deterioration of pumps at wastewater treatment facilities and pumping stations. Along with rainwater, debris such as stones, sand, and other solid materials enter the sewage system, causing clogs and damaging pumps,” explains the Municipal Communal Company in Imielin.
Effective rainwater drainage necessitates directing it towards retention tanks, drainage systems, or green spaces. It is crucial to ensure that these systems are not linked to the sanitary sewage system.
According to the act on collective water supply and collective sewage disposal , fines of up to PLN 10,000 may be levied for violations of these regulations. In cases of ongoing noncompliance, restrictions on freedom may also be enforced. The regulations further prohibit the discharge of sewage into systems designed for rainwater or meltwater discharge.
