Retail sales (April 2025). New CSO data from stores

In April 2025, retail sales at constant prices rose by 7.6 percent compared to the same month last year, according to the Central Statistical Office.
On a month-to-month basis, sales saw an increase of 6.2 percent, as reported by the Central Statistical Office.
In terms of current prices, retail sales last month increased by 7.9% year-on-year.
The consensus compiled by PAP Biznes projected a year-on-year rise in retail sales at constant prices of 3.2 percent and a month-on-month increase of 2.0 percent. For current prices, economists surveyed by PAP Biznes anticipated a year-on-year rise of 3.5 percent.
Finance Minister Andrzej Domański remarked in a post on X that this represents the highest retail sales growth rate in the past three years. He noted that „growth is evident across nearly all categories.” He assessed that the economy is gaining momentum.
Comments from economists
„Are we finally witnessing the retail sales beginning to emerge from a period of consolidation? The data from April, significantly exceeding forecasts, should help balance the indicators from the manufacturing sector,” mBank economists stated on the X platform.
„Retail sales were expected to perform well in April, but the results surprised us. They increased by 7.6% year-on-year. While part of this can be attributed to the late Easter, we also observed robust performance in categories typically unaffected by this factor, such as sales of durable goods. We are experiencing acceleration,” noted economists from Bank Pekao.
