The new president of the Supreme Audit Office (NIK). The two candidates are Tadeusz Dziuba and Mariusz Haładyj.

Two individuals have been nominated for the role of President of the Supreme Audit Office: Tadeusz Dziuba, put forward by the Law and Justice party (PiS), and Mariusz Haładyj, proposed by the Speaker of the Sejm, as announced by the Chancellery of the Sejm. The choice regarding the NIK President is expected to take place during the Sejm session scheduled for September 10-12.
The Chancellery of the Sejm (the lower house of parliament) reminded the public that the six-year tenure of the current President of the Supreme Audit Office, Marian Banaś, concludes on August 30, 2025, while the deadline for submitting nominations is set for July 31, 2025. A minimum of 35 MPs or the Speaker of the Sejm were permitted to propose a candidate for the President of the Supreme Audit Office.

Two nominations
The office announced that two candidates have been put forward – Tadeusz Dziuba, nominated by a group of MPs from the Law and Justice Parliamentary Club, and Mariusz Haładyj, nominated by the Speaker of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland.
„In accordance with the Act on the Protection of Classified Information, a comprehensive vetting process will be carried out for the candidates vying for the position of President of the Supreme Audit Office. The nominations will be forwarded to the relevant parliamentary committee (the State Audit Committee) for evaluation,” the announcement stated.
The election of the NIK President is scheduled for the Sejm session on September 10-12, 2025. The procedure for ratifying the election is anticipated to take place during the Senate session on September 24-25. Following this, should the procedure result in the election of the NIK President, the newly appointed President is expected to take the oath of office at the Sejm session on September 24-26.
„The hearing could occur in early September”
The Chancellery of the Sejm reminded that, in line with Article 16, Section 2 of the Act on the Supreme Audit Office, the President shall continue to fulfill their duties after their term has expired until a new President assumes the position.
The Speaker of the Sejm and the Speaker of the Senate, in response to requests from various non-governmental organizations and reflecting on the many positive experiences from the current term regarding citizen involvement in recruitment for significant state roles, expressed their joint intention to conduct a public hearing for the candidates for the President of the Supreme Audit Office with the participation of interested representatives from civil society.
„The Marshals are confident that such a hearing could be held in the early days of September,” it added.
Since August 30, 2019, Marian Banaś has held the office of President of the Supreme Audit Office (NIK); his tenure lasts six years. According to the Act, an individual may serve for no more than two terms.
Candidate profiles for the President of the Supreme Audit Office
Tadeusz Dziuba served as a member of the Contract Sejm from 1989 to 1991 and as a PiS MP during the 7th and 8th terms of the Sejm; he was the Voivode of Greater Poland from 2005 to 2007. From November 2019 to December 2023, he held the position of Vice-President of the Supreme Audit Office.
Mariusz Haładyj graduated from the Faculty of Law, Canon Law, and Administration at the Catholic University of Lublin. He also completed postgraduate studies in corporate law at the University of Warsaw and underwent auditor training at the Supreme Audit Office.
In February 2019, he was appointed head of the General Prosecutor’s Office by then-Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. From February 2012 to November 2015, he was Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Economy and served in the same capacity in the Ministry of Development from December 2015 to January 2018.
Appointment of the President of the Supreme Audit Office
According to the Act on the Supreme Audit Office, the president is appointed by an absolute majority of votes from the Sejm, with the agreement of the Senate.
The tenure of the head of the Supreme Audit Office concludes upon their death, a decision by the State Tribunal for removal from office, or dismissal. The Sejm can dismiss the head of the Supreme Audit Office prior to the end of their term; this may occur if they resign or are convicted of a crime by a final court ruling.
