European Commission President Announces Response to US Tariffs Reuters

A preliminary evaluation indicates that the new US tariffs could lead to a 0.4 percent decline in Poland’s GDP, suggesting that conservatively, the losses may surpass PLN 10 billion, Prime Minister Donald Tusk shared on social media.

The Polish Prime Minister remarked that Trump's action represents „a harsh and unwelcome impact, particularly as it originates from our closest ally, yet we will persevere.”

„Our partnership must also withstand this trial,” he emphasized.

In a previous post, the Polish leader reflected on the X platform: „Friendship signifies partnership. Partnership entails genuine and equitable mutual customs. Appropriate measures are essential.”

„This isn’t an encouraging morning for consumers and businesses, but Poland and Europe will come out of this stronger,” Finance Minister Andrzej Domański noted on Platform X.

Donald Trump imposes tariffs

The directive signed by Trump on Wednesday enacts „reciprocal tariffs” of no less than 10 percent on imported goods; for products from the EU, the rate will be 20 percent. The tariffs declared by the US are meant to be half of the overall tariffs and non-tariff trade barriers imposed by other nations. For China, tariffs will reach 34 percent (this is in addition to the previously announced 20 percent tariffs, resulting in a total of 54 percent), Japan will face 24 percent, India 26 percent, and South Korea 25 percent. The universal 10 percent tariff rate is set to take effect on April 5, while tariffs on specific countries will be enforced starting April 9.

As reported by Reuters, Trump's tariffs are initiating a global trade conflict that risks escalating inflation and stalling economic growth in the US and worldwide.

Among the nations affected by the tariffs was Ukraine, which faced a standard 10 percent rate, while Russia was exempt.
