During his address on Wednesday, the Prime Minister recalled that in 2023 – the final year of PiS governance – Poland’s economic growth was only 0.2%. – This is, in fact, stagnation. After a year and a half, we have reached 3.7%, which is the best result in Europe – remarked Tusk. He also pointed out the drop in inflation from 18.4% in 2023 to the current level of 4.1%.
Decreasing inflation and reducing VAT gap
– In 2023, I am still referring to the (last) year of the PiS administration, inflation in February was at 18.4 percent. Today, it stands at 4.1 percent and it will continue to improve. This inflation results in elevated prices – stated the Prime Minister in the Sejm.
– People will always aspire, and rightly so, to earn more than they currently do. It is finally worth acknowledging that due to lower inflation and wage increases, alongside low unemployment, real wage growth was 9.7 percent, with an expected 10 percent in 2024. This represents the highest wage increase in the last 25 years – he added.
He emphasized that the VAT gap has been reduced by half over the past two years. – In 2023, the final year of your governance, this VAT gap was 13.5 percent. In 2024, it is projected to be 6.9 percent. We have successfully cut the gap, meaning we have addressed abuses, by half – declared the Prime Minister.
Over PLN 60 billion for Polish families
– We have implemented the largest social transfers in the history of the Republic of Poland. The most assistance was directed towards those in need, but in a meticulously planned manner – said Tusk, discussing the social policy of his administration.
He referenced the introduction of the 500 plus program by PiS and remarked that „we were all impressed by the strong and well-managed propaganda surrounding 500 plus”. However, as he noted, in the first year of this program, PLN 16 billion was allocated to it.
– Do you know how much funding in 2024 (…) will be allocated to Polish families through the 800 plus program? PLN 62 billion – he clarified. Tusk blamed PiS, saying „they claimed it had to be done”. – And who organized the work of the state so that this was achievable? Our government – Tusk asserted.
Among the accomplishments of his administration in the area of social policy, he also highlighted support for individuals with disabilities, the introduction of what is known as a widow’s pension, and salary increases for the public sector, including educators.

Tusk: This is not a scam anymore, it is sabotage
The Prime Minister remarked that „it is challenging to hear comments from PiS regarding their stringent position on the EU”. He assessed that „this dismal trend of PiS was that they did everything possible to ensure Poland forfeited 240 billion zlotys from the KPO”. – Yet they paid the contribution, 30 billion zlotys in the last year of PiS governance (…) they paid the Germans and the French – Tusk pointed out.
– And do you know why you disbursed those 30 billion zlotys? So that the Germans and the French could utilize that KPO funding at home. This is no longer a scheme; it is a form of sabotage (…) you will face the tribunal of history for this – he told PiS lawmakers.
He contended that Poland under PiS rule lost access to grants, to what is „real cash” that sits on the
