„We want this raw material not to disappear, not to leave the country”

– The timber sector in Poland requires access to raw materials to prevent them from being exported – stated Krzysztof Paszyk, Minister of Development. He mentioned that a „legislative initiative” had been introduced regarding this issue.
– I am initiating legislation that seeks to classify wood as a strategic raw material for the Polish economy – announced Paszyk.
Wood as a strategic resource
The objective is to maximize the utilization of wood as a raw material and to guarantee its availability for production purposes.
– Our goal is to ensure this resource does not vanish or exit the country – emphasized Minister Paszyk during the inaugural Timber Industry Congress held at the Ministry of Agriculture and Technology.
The ministry head reminded attendees that wood is an eco-friendly and renewable resource, with 30,000 applications in the economy.
„The timber sector contributes five percent to GDP”
– In Poland, the timber sector accounts for five percent of GDP, supported by nearly 40,000 small and medium-sized enterprises employing about half a million individuals. It is regrettable to note that communication between the industry and governmental bodies is lacking, and the sector is currently experiencing a troubling stagnation – remarked Paszyk.
He further stated that allowing this stagnation to persist could lead to severe repercussions for the overall economy. He expressed optimism that the inaugural Timber Industry Congress would facilitate a breakthrough and enhance dialogue.
Legislative efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture and Technology
The Minister of Development also revealed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is engaged in „intensive efforts” to issue new regulations concerning technical standards for buildings. This is intended to accommodate solutions that align with the latest construction technologies, including those utilizing wood.
As per the Ministry of Architecture, this initiative aims to promote the broader use of wooden components in construction and to establish achievable parameters for wooden structures.
During the congress, government officials assured that the wood industry would be prioritized as a vital segment of the Polish economy. They indicated that the implementation of the suggested initiatives would help stabilize and further advance the industry, offering it reliable operational conditions.
