The spokesperson for Polish Airlines LOT, Krzysztof Moczulski, stated that the airline does not utilize Iranian airspace for transit flights to Asia. He highlighted that flights to India and other Asian nations are being conducted as planned.

Following the Israeli assault on Iran early Friday morning, both nations closed their airspace. Iraq and Jordan followed suit. Numerous airlines were compelled to alter their flight paths.

„LOT Polish Airlines does not use Iranian airspace”

– In light of the circumstances in the region, we wish to inform you that LOT Polish Airlines refrains from using Iranian airspace on transit flights to Asia. Currently, flights to India and other Asian destinations continue as scheduled – stated Moczulski.

LOT operates direct flights from Warsaw to Asia, including Delhi and Mumbai in India, as well as to Japan and South Korea.

As the attacks by Israel commenced, numerous aircraft flying over Iraq, among other areas, were redirected to Central Asia or Saudi Arabia. A heavily trafficked air corridor extends over the border with Iran, linking Europe to the Persian Gulf nations.

In Israel, Ben Gurion Airport, the primary airport, has been shut down. The Israeli airline El Al has announced the evacuation of its aircraft from Israel. Additionally, the airline Israir has stated it is relocating its aircraft from the airport near Tel Aviv.

Flights to Israel suspended

Numerous international airlines had already ceased operations to and from Tel Aviv after a missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels struck near the airport on May 4. Other airlines, including Germany’s Lufthansa, Russia’s Aeroflot, and Qatar Airways, declared on Friday that they would suspend flights in the Middle Eastern region.

Last week, LOT announced the suspension of its flights on the Poland-Israel route until June 15. The company indicated at that time that decisions regarding the resumption of flights post that date would be made „continuously.”

Also last week, German airline Lufthansa revealed plans to resume flights to Tel Aviv beginning June 23. „This decision is founded on a comprehensive safety evaluation and was made in collaboration with the appropriate authorities. It pertains to flights operated by Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, ITA, and Lufthansa Cargo,” the airline stated.

According to previous reports, several airlines, including British Airways – until June 14, Air India – until June 19, and Ryanair – until July 31, have suspended connections with Tel Aviv.

Israel initiated its strikes on Iran early Friday morning, asserting that its targets were nuclear and military installations. Iranian media and officials reported that the operation focused on a vital uranium enrichment site in Natanz, central Iran, and a facility in Parchin, where experts indicate nuclear weapons research is occurring. Israeli forces began intercepting Iranian drones early Friday morning.
