Wood as a strategic raw material. An important announcement by the Minister of Development Krzysztof Paszyk
The Ministry of Development is currently drafting legislation that will designate wood as a raw material of strategic significance for the Polish economy, as stated by the ministry head, Krzysztof Paszyk, during a press briefing on Friday. This proposed legislation also aims to restrict the export of wood beyond the European Union’s borders.
The head of the Ministry of Development and Technology reminded that he pledged in March of this year to create such legislation and emphasized that the foundational principles have been established for „an act to be formulated in the upcoming weeks.”

Wood as a strategic raw material
– The wood sector in Poland comprises 40 thousand businesses, employing nearly one million individuals directly and within associated companies. The wood industry represents over 5 percent of the GDP, Paszyk noted at the conference.
He further mentioned that following discussions with the industry, he committed to drafting an industry agreement for the timber sector and forming a timber industry council to maintain ongoing dialogue between institutions to develop effective regulations that will enhance the sector’s situation.
The Minister clarified that the primary focus is to classify wood as one of the strategic raw materials for the Polish economy.
The legislation will also seek to curtail the timber export outside the European Union, including to China.
Paszyk indicated that the ministry is also aiming to implement systems for tracing the origin of wood and measures to promote local processing.
