NatWest and UBS banks lay off staff. Several thousand people will lose their jobs

The British bank NatWest and Swiss UBS have declared substantial reductions in their workforce in Poland. The former has revealed its total exit from the country, while the latter is shuttering its branch in Warsaw. Approximately three thousand employees will be impacted by these layoffs.
„The NatWest Group will cease its operations in Poland by the conclusion of 2025. This decision follows the successful completion of a specific project that involved a considerable number of Polish staff,” the Group communicated to the tvn24.pl business news team.
NatWest Exits Poland
The bank clarified in its statement that 1,600 employees will be affected by the layoffs. „The choice for NatWest to withdraw from Poland was not made lightly, and the NatWest Group is dedicated to assisting all employees in Poland impacted by this decision,” the Group stated.
„The Polish team at NatWest comprises experts in anti-money laundering (AML) and data analytics, whose skills are highly regarded in the job market, which is why the company is aiding employees in their pursuit of new career opportunities,” it added.
According to Reuters, around 55 percent of the roles will be relocated to the bank’s branches in the UK and India, where similar positions will be established.
UBS Shuts Warsaw Office
The Swiss institution UBS has also verified the reduction of its workforce in Poland. As reported by „Wyborcza”, the Atrium II Warsaw office will gradually close between 2025 and 2026. The layoffs are expected to encompass roughly 7% of employees annually, totaling around 1,200 individuals.
„UBS remains firmly committed to its activities in Poland, and our strategic centers in Kraków and Wrocław will continue to play a crucial role for the entire organization. The decisions made in Poland align with UBS’s long-term strategy, which aims to secure the company’s ongoing stable growth. This involves optimizing our employment strategy and concentrating on essential areas that will ensure our success in a competitive landscape,” UBS stated in a communication sent to the tvn24.pl business news team.
At present, the company operates offices in Warsaw, Krakow, and Wroclaw, employing a total of 8,700 individuals.
