„We do not encourage taxpayers”. Tax office warns

The Ministry of Finance issues a warning regarding scammers who utilize fraudulent emails to attempt to extract personal information. They clarify that cybercriminals are posing as representatives of the Ministry of Finance and the National Revenue Administration (KAS). The tax office urges taxpayers to exercise caution.
The Ministry of Finance reports that the emails dispatched by these fraudsters pertain to tax refunds and requests for verification of identification details in order to access funds.
„We do not encourage taxpayers”
„These messages prompt recipients to click on harmful links or open attachments. Once the link is clicked, the user is redirected to a site that may ask for sensitive information. This is an effort to obtain private data,” the Ministry of Finance clarified.

„Neither the National Tax Administration nor the Ministry of Finance sends email notifications regarding the review of PIT declarations and does not include links in their communications. We do not encourage taxpayers to utilize electronic banking to verify their account information for receiving a refund of overpayments,” the tax office stressed via social media.
They also urged: „Avoid clicking on links from dubious emails! Scammers frequently pressure you to act swiftly and may use names of fictitious administrative bodies, such as the 'Department of Direct Taxes’ of the Ministry of Finance.”
„We encourage you to call and clarify this situation”
However, the ministry emphasized that confidential information should not be shared with anyone, especially after receiving suspicious emails or text messages requesting such information.
If you have any uncertainties regarding the email or text you received, or if someone has called you pretending to be a tax office representative demanding sensitive information, we urge you to contact the KAS hotline for clarification: 22 330 03 30.
The Ministry of Finance also promotes the use of the CERT platform, which is designated for reporting any cybersecurity incidents.
„Details about PIT overpayments can be accessed through the e-Tax Office. You can log in using your preferred method on the government platform http://login.gov.pl. Additionally, you can monitor the status of your tax refund in the e-US. To update your bank account number, please use the ZAP-3 form available in the e-US,” KAS indicated.
