Applying for an ID card using the mObywatel application

With the mObywatel app, you can now submit an application for an ID card for an adult, child, or dependent. This represents one of the new offerings in the Załatw sprawa section within the application. To obtain an ID, users need to fill out a form and upload a photo. If the user is wearing sunglasses or headgear in the image, they must provide an additional document confirming their permission to use such a photo.

This service is available to adults and those who will reach adulthood within 30 days of applying. A Trusted Profile, an ePUAP account, and an added mDowód in the mObywatel app are also necessary. If a user wishes to acquire an ID card for a child or ward, they must possess a valid physical ID card.

The application submitted through the app must be supplemented with fingerprints within 30 days from the application date at the relevant municipal office. The sooner this is done, the better, as the document production process begins once this formality is completed. This requirement does not apply to individuals under 12 years of age or other exempt categories.

Monitoring the status of your submitted application

From today, tracking the status of a submitted application has become simpler. Anyone who has applied for an ID card for themselves, a child, or a dependent can check the progress of their document in mObywatel. By entering the application number, users can also check another person’s application.

Users will receive updates regarding the readiness of the document for collection and any additional requirements, such as the necessity to visit the office to provide fingerprints.

The option to suspend and unsuspend an ID card

The updated version of the app serves as a significant aid for parents and guardians, allowing them not only to submit applications for an ID for a child or ward and monitor the document’s preparation status but also to swiftly suspend and unsuspend the ID card. This feature is particularly useful if the child or ward loses their document, saving both time and stress.

Similar to adults, a lost ID card can be suspended for a maximum of 14 days. If the document is recovered before the suspension period ends, it can be reactivated. Otherwise, after 14 days of suspension, the ID card will be rendered invalid.

New features can be found in the Załatw sprawa service catalog. These will be available to adults who have an ePUAP mailbox, a Trusted Profile, and mDowód incorporated in the mObywatel application.

It’s important to note that the ability to suspend and unsuspend an adult’s ID card was introduced in the previous version of the mObywatel application. More details on this can be found in the article What’s new in mObywatel Quick report of loss of an ID card and checking its validity in the application – Ministry of Digital Affairs – Gov.pl Portal.

Reporting a lost or damaged passport

Now, just a few clicks are enough to report a lost or damaged passport. An application for invalidation of the document can now be submitted through mObywatel. All that is required is to complete a simple application available in the Załatw sprawa catalog to immediately invalidate the document, whether the owner is in Poland or abroad.

However, service and diplomatic passports cannot be invalidated via the app. Currently, this feature does not extend to invalidating passports of children, dependents, or third parties.
