Polish Post halts parcel shipments to the USA TVN24 BiS

As of Monday, August 25, Poczta Polska has ceased accepting deliveries of goods to the United States. The organization explained that this temporary measure was „necessitated by restrictions imposed by US authorities and air carriers, which hinder deliveries.”

In a communication released on August 22, Poczta Polska conveyed that the restriction pertains to the following types of goods (until further notice):

  • postal parcels, including those with declared value,
  • letter items with declared value,
  • unregistered and registered letter mail,
  • Global Ekspres shipments,
  • EMS shipments.

The Office notes that it remains possible to send unregistered letters and registered mail without goods (permissible contents are solely correspondence and documents), in addition to EMS shipments containing documents.

The Polish Post Office is not alone

Numerous other postal services across Europe have enacted similar restrictions. Bpost, PostNL, and Post Luxembourg, the postal entities in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg, have adopted comparable measures. PostEurop, an association of 51 European public postal operators, has indicated that if a resolution to the US tariff situation is not reached by August 29, it is likely that member organizations will suspend parcel shipments to the US.

On August 21, an agreement on tariffs was reached between the EU and the US. This agreement outlines that most goods imported from the EU will incur a 15% tariff. Elevated tariffs will be applied to items such as alcohol, while reduced tariffs will apply to generic medicines, aircraft, and aircraft components.

The Polish operator stated that it is continuously monitoring the situation and will resume accepting shipments of goods to the USA as soon as possible.

„Poczta Polska will promptly resume accepting shipments to the US as soon as circumstances permit. We are diligently monitoring the developments and will keep you informed of any updates,” the statement indicated. „We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience – these circumstances are beyond the control of Poczta Polska,” it further stated.
