Donald Tusk on the package of 120 acts as part of deregulation TVN24

Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Thursday that the government would address the matter of streamlining the divorce process during its meeting on May 6. This declaration was made during a discussion with social representatives regarding deregulation. The suggested plan would allow for a marriage to be terminated, provided certain criteria are met, by either a civil registrar or a notary.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk, along with Rafał Brzoska, the head of the deregulation team and president of InPost, held a meeting with representatives from both social and governmental sectors. The discussion included a report detailing efforts to simplify existing regulations. Of the nearly 260 proposals submitted by social representatives, 202 were passed on to the government. Out of these, 197 have been reviewed, and 122 have been approved for implementation.

Adam Malinowski, a representative of the „SprawdzaMY” initiative, shared suggestions for simplifying the divorce process. He stated that the extrajudicial termination of marriage would enable a civil registrar or notary to finalize the divorce if there are no disputes over property, mutual agreement between the parties, and no minor children involved. He emphasized that this approach would alleviate the burden on the courts.

Extension of the deadline for changing the name

Another suggested measure is to extend the period for submitting a declaration to revert to one’s surname post-divorce from 3 to 24 months.

Malinowski stated, „This appears to be a completely adequate timeframe to finalize these formalities.” Prime Minister Donald Tusk responded to the proposals, saying, „We have a draft from April 23, which is a specific proposal aimed at facilitating the divorce process. (…) We will make a decision regarding this in the government on May 6.”

Maciej Berek, head of the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers, also confirmed that the Council would address this initiative at that time.
