PGNiG Fake Invoice Scam. CSIRT NASK Warning

On Tuesday, CSIRT NASK issued a warning regarding cybercriminals posing as PGNiG to obtain personal information. The fraudsters are sending bogus emails that claim overdue payments are due.
The NASK CSIRT team has alerted the public about cybercriminals dispatching emails alleging an unpaid invoice, demanding immediate payment. „The email also includes a link that directs the victim to a site impersonating PGNiG. This site is designed to extract sensitive information,” the report indicates.
Experts recommend that after reading an email, it is crucial to stay composed, as fraudsters rely on the fear of potential consequences from not settling the bill to encourage quick clicks on the link. „It is essential to check the sender’s email address, as legitimate communications are always sent from official domains,” CSIRT NASK highlighted.

They stressed the importance of exercising caution and refraining from clicking on any link if there are any uncertainties. It is vital never to provide personal details or send payment card information through websites linked from unknown email addresses. „If anything seems suspicious, it’s advisable to call the hotline or visit a branch in person to verify if there is indeed an issue with an unpaid invoice,” the team added.
Suspicious emails and content can be reported through the website fakt.cert.pl, while dubious text messages can be reported by calling 8080.
CSIRT NASK is the Computer Security Incident Response Team operated by the Scientific and Academic Computer Network – National Research Institute (NASK-PIB). Its role includes documenting and managing incidents that threaten network security.
