The new 2025/2026 school year has begun. Key dates

The 2025/2026 academic year commenced on Monday and will continue until June 26. The winter vacation will be organized into three sessions rather than the previous four. The eighth-grade exams are scheduled for May 11-13, while the final examinations will take place from May 4-30, 2026. Below are the essential dates.
The commencement date for the new academic year is outlined in the regulation from the Minister of Education concerning the organization of the school year. It specifies: „In schools (…), classes begin on the first weekday of September and conclude on the Friday following June 20th. If September 1st occurs on a Friday or Saturday, classes will start on the Monday after September 1st.”
Academic Year 2025/2026 – Key Dates
The 2025/2026 school year started on Monday, September 1, and will extend until Friday, June 26. Students graduating from high school will conclude their studies on April 24.
Included in the 2025/2026 academic calendar are two extended holiday breaks: a winter recess for Christmas from December 22 to 31, and a spring break for Easter from April 2 to 7.
By September 30, school administrators must announce additional days off from classes. The number of additional days varies based on the school type, capped at 8 days for primary schools, up to 10 days for general secondary and technical schools, and up to 6 days for first-degree vocational schools. Schools typically allocate days off for internal examinations and retreats.

Holidays Spread Over Three Dates
The two-week winter break will now occur over three distinct dates rather than the previous four. The groups of voivodeships assigned to the same holiday dates have also been reorganized. The Ministry of Education revealed earlier this year that this adjustment was made „in response to numerous requests and suggestions from citizens over the past years, as well as feedback from parliament members.”
From January 19 to February 1, students in the following voivodeships will enjoy winter break: Mazowieckie, Pomorskie, Podlaskie, Świętokrzyskie, and Warmian-Masurian; from February 2 to 15, students from Lower Silesia, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Łódź, West Pomeranian, Lesser Poland, and Opole; and from February 16 to March 1, students from Podkarpackie, Lublin, Greater Poland, Lubusz, and Silesia.
The Ministry of National Education stated that it considered the comparable total number of students within each voivodeship group. It noted that a slightly lower student population was observed in the Mazowieckie voivodeship, which, according to parents and tourism organizations, frequently utilizes winter recreational opportunities.
„The reconfiguration of the existing groups means that in certain neighboring voivodeships, the holidays will coincide on the same dates (which will fulfill a commonly expressed request from parents)” – the ministry explained.
It was also conveyed that in subsequent years, the principle of rotation among voivodeship groups will be upheld, meaning the group that has holidays last in 2026 will have them first in 2027, and so forth.
Examinations
The eighth-grade examination will take place from May 11-13: Polish language on May 11, mathematics on May 12, and foreign language on May 13. An alternative date for the eighth-grade exam for students unable to attend on the regular dates has been arranged for June 8-10.
The primary Matura examination session is scheduled from May 4-30. Written exams will occur from May 4-21, while oral exams are set for May 7-30.
Written examinations will commence at 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
An additional session of the high school leaving examination is planned for high school graduates who, due to health issues or unforeseen circumstances, cannot participate in the main exam dates. This session is set for June 1-16: written exams from June 1-16, and oral exams from June 8-10.
