Aldi. Product withdrawn from stores

The Chief Sanitary Inspectorate disclosed the discovery of harmful Escherichia coli bacteria in two batches of wheat flour. „Consumption of the contaminated product may present a risk to human health,” the statement indicated. The Aldi chain also shared information regarding the product withdrawal.
„The Chief Sanitary Inspector has been informed that tests conducted by the owner revealed the presence of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli bacteria (STEC) in the wheat flour,” the announcement stated.

GIS indicated that „the distributor, in collaboration with the manufacturer, promptly initiated the procedure for recalling the product from the market upon receiving the test results and notified the State Sanitary Inspection authorities.”
Information for customers was also made available on the Aldi chain’s website.
„Refunds for the purchased goods will be provided, even without a receipt as proof of purchase. The product can be returned to Aldi stores until 03.03.2025 (inclusive),” the retail chain clarified.
Investigative proceedings
„Official food control authorities are conducting investigative proceedings regarding this matter. The product from the affected batch should not be consumed,” GIS stated.
It was clarified that infection with STEC toxin, produced by the bacterium Escherichia coli, can result in hemorrhagic colitis or, less frequently, non-bloody diarrhea. In rare instances, there can be a significant decline in health, presenting as hemolytic uremic syndrome or, even more rarely, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura.
