The Ministry of National Education has released the calendar for the 2025/2026 academic year. According to the document, the school year will commence on Monday, September 1, and will continue until Friday, June 26. A notable alteration has been made regarding the winter break, which will now occur on three dates instead of four.

The calendar for the 2025/2026 academic year features two extended holiday periods: the winter break for Christmas, which will take place from December 22 to December 31, and the spring break for Easter, scheduled from April 2 to April 7.

Alteration in winter break

The two-week winter break will be observed on three separate dates rather than the previous four. Additionally, the classifications of voivodeships sharing the same holiday dates have been revised. The Ministry of Education stated at the beginning of the year that this adjustment was made „in response to persistent requests and appeals from citizens over several years, as well as statements from parliament members.”

From January 19 to February 1, students from the following voivodeships will have holidays: Mazowieckie, Pomorskie, Podlaskie, Świętokrzyskie, and Warmian-Masurian; from February 2 to February 15, holidays will be for students from Dolnośląskie, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Łódzkie, Zachodniopomorskie, Małopolskie, and Opolskie; and from February 16 to March 1, holidays will apply to students from Podkarpackie, Lublin, Wielkopolskie, Lubusz, and Silesia.

The Ministry of National Education noted that the decision was influenced by a comparable overall number of students in each province group. It highlighted that the group from the Mazowieckie province had a slightly lower number of students, who, according to parents and tourism organizations, often engage in winter recreational activities.

„The modification in the composition of the current groups means that in some adjacent voivodeships, the holidays will coincide (which will facilitate fulfilling a common request from parents)” – it stated.

It also mentioned that the principle of rotating voivodeship groups would be preserved in future years, meaning that the group with holidays on the last date in 2026 will have them on the first date in 2027, and so forth.

Absence of exam dates

The ministry’s calendar does not specify the dates for high school final exams, eighth-grade assessments, or vocational tests. These dates will be determined by the director of the Central Examination Commission, who has until August 20 to finalize them.

Students graduating from high school will conclude the academic year on April 24.

The summer vacation will commence on June 27 and extend until August 31.
