Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz: President Karol Nawrocki was once again misled
In a gathering with agricultural workers, President Karol Nawrocki endorsed his proposal for legislation aimed at safeguarding the Polish countryside. The suggested measures involve prolonging the moratorium on the sale of state-owned farmland. Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz remarked that „President Nawrocki has been deceived once again,” as „the sale of agricultural and forest land to foreigners has risen sharply under the Law and Justice (PiS) administration.”
On Saturday, during an assembly with farmers in Krąpiel, located in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, the president endorsed his proposed legislation on the safeguarding of the Polish countryside.
Nawrocki: Polish countryside requires decisive measures
„Today, the President of Poland unequivocally asserts his support for Polish farmers. The Polish countryside necessitates decisive action to enhance our food security,” Nawrocki stated in his address.
He revealed that his proposed legislation pertains to the moratorium on the sale of land owned by the Agricultural Property Resource of the State Treasury, which is set to expire in 2026.
– The Act on the Protection of Polish Villages urges the parliamentary majority to extend the moratorium prohibiting the sale of Polish land, and I signed it today – the president declared.
He added that the proposed law also seeks to amend the preamble of the Act on Shaping the Agricultural System, which he referred to as the „constitution of Polish agriculture.”
– I aim to pass the act on shaping the agricultural system with a revised preamble, which will provide us with a mechanism for a potential response when the agreement with Mercosur countries is enacted and when the Polish market is once again inundated with products from Ukraine – emphasized Nawrocki.
Nawrocki signed his bill on the protection of Polish countryside TVN24He underscored that the provision in this preamble would grant the political sphere the chance to advocate for Polish farmers.
„This measure should resonate with farmers throughout Europe. Farmers from other European nations are equally alarmed about the signing of the European Union agreement with Mercosur countries,” the president remarked.
„This is the most critical measure for me as it represents the interests of Polish farmers, but I hope that our partners beyond the borders of Poland, within the European Union, will adopt a similar stance and that we will forge a coalition of nations opposing the EU-Mercosur agreement. I will persistently emphasize this on the international stage,” he added.

Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, the chairman of the Polish People’s Party (PSL), Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of National Defense, addressed the issue via social media. He asserted that „President Nawrocki has been misled once more – this time concerning agricultural matters.”
„It was our administration that halted the unregulated influx of agricultural products from Ukraine. On July 23, 2022, in Kórnik, Greater Poland, President Kaczyński stated that 'Ukrainian grain poses no threat [to Polish farmers].’ According to the Central Statistical Office, 2.5 million tons of grain arrived in Poland from Ukraine that year! We supported farmers by altering the regulations at the EU level. Thanks to this, the rules have been tightened, and Ukrainian grain is not overwhelming the Polish market,” reads the statement from the PSL leader.
Kosiniak-Kamysz noted that during the PiS administration, „the sale of agricultural and forest land to foreign entities has significantly escalated.” „From 412 hectares in 2015 to 1,560 hectares in 2020 and 5,119 (!) hectares in 2022. In 2024, following our government taking power, sales declined to 1,276 hectares. At every level, we uphold the principle that Polish land should remain in Polish hands,” he emphasized.
Kosiniak-Kamysz also shared his thoughts on the presidential bill concerning the protection of Polish countryside on Sunday while preparing for the Polish Army Day parade.
