A revolution in bills for millions of Poles

Under the guise of the so-called anti-blackout initiative, the government intends to eliminate electricity tariffs, which currently shield consumers from substantial price hikes imposed by energy providers, as reported by „Rzeczpospolita” in Monday’s issue.
The publication reveals that the Polish Power Grid (PSE) has developed a set of legislative changes aimed at mitigating the risk of a blackout similar to the one that occurred recently in the Czech Republic or in late April in Spain.
The recommendations suggested by PSE, which „Rz” has examined, are designed to transform the market, as mentioned in the report. The article notes that a unified decision-making body managing the energy system’s operations is set to be established.
Moving away from regulated prices
One of the key proposals emphasized by the publication is the „gradual removal of electricity price regulation for households”, which, according to the paper, would „revolutionarily” alter how these nearly 15 million consumers utilize energy.
The publication stresses that this would imply that the head of the Energy Regulatory Office, who currently approves electricity tariffs, would no longer offer protection to consumers against excessive price hikes.
Incentive for dynamic pricing
As indicated by the publication, this move aims to motivate energy consumers to opt for dynamic pricing, with rates fluctuating throughout the day. Rzeczpospolita highlights that this would boost renewable energy usage during the midday hours, allowing consumers to pay less for electricity.
„Conversely, PSE, as the entity responsible for ensuring energy security, would acquire tools to aid in stabilizing supplies,” the daily observes.
