Glapiński and Świrski Before the State Tribunal? Challenges with Witnesses and Document Access TVN24

„It remains uncertain when NBP President Adam Glapiński will be interrogated by the Sejm’s Constitutional Accountability Committee concerning the accusations mentioned in the motion for his accountability before the State Tribunal,” stated committee chairman Zdzisław Gawlik from the Civic Coalition. The timeline for the committee to finalize its review on the subject is also not known.

„I cannot specify when Glapiński’s hearing will occur. We are utilizing the legal mechanisms available to ensure that the committee’s proceedings proceed without issues. The next session is set for July 22nd at 11 a.m., where we will be questioning additional witnesses,” Gawlik informed PAP Biznes at the Sejm on Tuesday.

When questioned about the likelihood of the committee completing its work on drafting a preliminary motion for a Supreme Court judge concerning Glapiński, Gawlik responded: „The legislature anticipated that this process could extend over two or more terms (of the Sejm – editor’s note). This issue is challenging, intricate, and multifaceted. I cannot predict today (how long the committee’s work will require – editor’s note). We have already heard from 18 out of the 63 witnesses. We have amassed a considerable amount of documentation from PKO BP, Pekao SA, and the National Bank of Poland. The documents vary in form, and we are currently analyzing them; there is a substantial volume.”

He further mentioned that on Tuesday, the committee passed „substantive resolutions regarding the matter.”

Confidential Meetings of the Commission

On Tuesday, the Constitutional Accountability Committee (ODK) established a new schedule for addressing the preliminary motion to hold NBP President Adam Glapiński accountable before the State Tribunal (TS). The committee is examining the motion in private sessions.

Reporters were barred from entering the Sejm building during the committee’s meeting. The Marshal’s Guard did not explain the rationale for the denial of access.

The last session of the ODK regarding the preliminary motion against Glapiński was held in December 2024. In the fall of 2024, the ODK began hearing the initial witnesses in the case, who were mid-level managers from BGK and private individuals. The witness list originally included more than 60 names.

A collection of MPs from the ruling coalition presented a preliminary motion for a TS concerning Glapiński to the Sejm in March 2024.
