Batch of poppy seeds withdrawn from stores. „Health risk”

On Wednesday, the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate released a caution regarding a specific batch of poppy seeds found to have surpassed the allowable limit of opium alkaloids. This product is being removed from the market.
According to GIS, following an examination by the State Sanitary Inspectorate, it was determined that the allowable level of opium alkaloids in the identified batch of poppy seeds had been exceeded. It emphasized that, based on a risk assessment by specialists from the National Institute of Public Health PZH – National Research Institute, consuming the product from this batch could present health hazards.
Opium alkaloids are natural compounds found in opium derived from immature poppy seeds. This category includes substances such as morphine, codeine, thebaine, papaverine, and narcotine.

GIS indicated that VOG Polska Sp. z o.o. has initiated a product withdrawal protocol. This process is being overseen by the State Sanitary Inspection Authorities in collaboration with the company.
