Expansion of Chopin Airport
The terminal expansion at Chopin Airport is expected to begin in spring 2026.
– It is essential for Chopin Airport to undergo expansion – stated Andrzej Ilków, president of Polish Airports, in September 2024. He mentioned that „the airport had plans for expansion, but these were halted by the decision of the previous government in 2019.”
According to the president, expanding the terminal will facilitate an increase in air traffic operations, meaning take-offs and landings will rise from the current 600 to 800 per day. – During nighttime, we aim to maintain the current level of 40 operations, concentrated more around 10:00-11:30 p.m. and 5:00-6:00 a.m., keeping the middle of the night free of operations – he observed.
– Regarding these additional operations, they will not produce more noise than what is currently stipulated by the limited use area, since the aircraft are 30-40 percent quieter than when this area was established – he added. He believes that the increased capacity is also intended to prepare airlines for the transition to the new airport being constructed as part of the Central Communication Port.
