Donald Tusk: Sławków will be the largest transport hub in Europe

The largest transshipment logistics center in Europe is set to be established in Sławków, Silesia, as announced by Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Monday, highlighting the significance of Polish oversight of the Euroterminal.
The Prime Minister noted that a resolution was passed for the Industrial Development Agency (ARP) along with its partners to invest in port infrastructure to „effectively double the transshipment capacity”.
Tusk: Sławków will be the largest transport hub in Europe
– I can assert without exaggeration that here, in Sławków, Silesia, Poland, we are going to establish the largest logistics hub of this kind in Europe. This is not merely about setting records (…) it will also represent a significant opportunity for Poland – Tusk stressed.
He stated that it is crucial to retain „Polish control over locations such as this largest (…) logistics hub in Poland”.
Euroterminal Sławków is strategically located at the intersection of the westernmost broad-gauge railway line (1520 mm) and standard-gauge lines (1435 mm), facilitating the transshipment of containers transported by rail between the Far East and Asia to Western Europe, including routes through Ukraine. The terminal is currently undergoing expansion, and upon completion, it will boast a transshipment capacity exceeding 500 thousand TEU (standard containers) annually. Presently, it handles nearly 285 thousand TEU each year.
Prime Minister: Sławków has become a European logistics powerhouse
As Donald Tusk highlighted during a press briefing, Poland aims to capitalize significantly on the reconstruction efforts in Ukraine. – It is fair to say: we seek to generate substantial revenue for Poland from the reconstruction of Ukraine. We want to assist, but we also wish to profit from it, and this specialized hub is essential for that – stated the head of government.
– It is not solely about Ukraine, nor just the eastern route (…). That is why we are committing substantial financial resources and effort to develop Sławków into this European logistics powerhouse, the largest center in Europe, as it serves as a logistical heart where flows occur not only in the east-west direction but also north-south – he emphasized.
The Prime Minister assured that Euroterminal Sławków will eventually serve as a transshipment center for goods from all across Asia, including China, once the war in Ukraine concludes. – I need not clarify what an incredible opportunity this presents for all of us – he added.
– We cannot revert to past scenarios where many nations, including Poland, were involved – I refer to the war in Iraq – and then the major players profited from the reconstruction while Poland was sidelined. Today, I want to convey that if we are discussing tens or hundreds of billions of złoty that the world, Europe, Poland, and Ukraine will invest in the reconstruction of Ukraine, then we are, among other things, expanding this logistics hub, this logistical heart of Europe, ensuring that Poland can benefit from it – Tusk concluded.
