Donald Tusk on border controls with Germany TVN24

„I will not hesitate to implement temporary border controls, including with Germany, should the pressure persist,” stated Prime Minister Donald Tusk during the Sejm session. He mentioned that he has notified Poland’s neighboring countries regarding this matter.

The Prime Minister responded to inquiries from MPs during a debate concerning the vote of confidence proposal. He reassured that every inch of the eastern border is under surveillance from drones and cameras.

He also noted that nearly 10,000 personnel are actively overseeing the security of this border, and the efficiency of the barrier has enhanced from 30 percent to 98 percent.

In light of German authorities returning migrants to Poland and opposition members urging for the closure of the Polish-German border, Tusk emphasized that if he „were to act solely based on political motives, he would declare that we are sealing the borders: no further discussion”.

Prime Minister: You understand very well what this means for Poles

– However, you are fully aware of the implications for Polish citizens residing in the border zone – he remarked.

He reiterated that if the pressure at the border with our neighbors does not lessen, „we will not hesitate to implement temporary border controls – including with Germany”.

The Prime Minister, discussing the government’s approach to migration, stated that it „will remain selective”.

– This is the manner in which we have operated since the inception of our administration. With restrictions on entry and residency in Poland from nations with high migration risks, we are enforcing this through a responsible visa policy – Tusk emphasized.

– The reduction in the number of asylum requests following the implementation of the suspension by our majority is thirtyfold – he added.

The Sejm granted a vote of confidence to Donald Tusk’s government on Wednesday. A total of 243 deputies supported the vote of confidence, while 210 opposed it, and no members abstained from voting.
