In a year, 158 thousand people died

The population of Poland at the conclusion of the first quarter of 2025 has decreased by 158 thousand compared to the previous year, as reported by the Central Statistical Office. It noted that the current number of Poles stands at 37.437 million.
In comparison to the end of 2024, the population has diminished by more than 52,000.
The number of births is declining
The actual rate of decline during the January to March period this year was -0.14%, indicating that for every 10,000 residents of Poland, 14 individuals have vanished (three more than in the first quarter of 2024).
Initial data reveals that around 58,000 live births were recorded in the first three months, which is over 6,000 less than in the equivalent timeframe of 2024.
The natural increase (the difference between the number of live births and total deaths) continued to be negative, amounting to -54.5 thousand.
