Inflation in Poland. Report: Easter basket price increased by over 7 percent in one year.

Data from the Centre for Social and Economic Research indicates that the cost of an Easter basket will rise by over 7 percent compared to last year, reaching PLN 65. The most significant price hikes were observed in chocolate, salt, and butter, while the prices for wheat bread and Krakowska sausage have decreased.
Experts from the Center for Social and Economic Research (CASE) noted that last year the Easter basket was priced at PLN 60, which increased to PLN 63 in 2023. Currently, it stands at PLN 65, marking the highest level since 2021.
Products with the Most Significant Price Increases
The report’s authors highlighted that when comparing prices for products on the Monday before Easter in 2024 and 2025, chocolate experienced the most considerable increase, with milk chocolate rising by 33.7% and dark chocolate by 20.9%. Following that, salt prices increased by 21.3%, and butter became 13.8% more expensive year-on-year. Certain cold cuts also saw price hikes, including white sausage (11.7%) and ham (10.8%).
Conversely, wheat bread has decreased in price by 9.5% compared to the previous year. We will also see lower prices for some types of sausages, with Krakowska sausage dropping by 14.3%. Additionally, mayonnaise prices have declined, with a 6% reduction.
Experts attribute the price fluctuations in various food categories to „two interacting forces.” On one side, cost pressures arose from climate change, the impacts of the war in Ukraine, and geopolitical uncertainties. On the other side, government interventions, such as temporary adjustments in food taxes or electricity fees, played a role.
„Our analysis indicates that the most notable change in 2024, compared to previous years, was a marked decrease in the aforementioned volatility, while the overall price growth trend remained unchanged,” the experts remarked. They added that although the cost of the basket was lower on the Monday before Easter than in 2023, this scenario was temporary, as subsequent price increases led to the overall basket cost reaching an even higher level this year.
