Every presidential campaign features promises of action, change, or reform. Such statements are made by all candidates, regardless of their differing perspectives, and voicing them comes at no cost.

– These are not merely political fantasies – states Michał Piękoś, publisher of the Strefa Biznesu portal. – This resembles a form of political absurdity, which we as economic journalists might find amusing. However, it is tragic, as it reflects the state of Polish political discourse – he adds.

Leading Candidates’ Commitments

– I envision a strong, proud, affluent, and secure Poland – this is the central theme of Confederation candidate Sławomir Mentzen, reiterated in every address. The only question remains whether this vision of Poland can fulfill his promises.

The Confederation leader’s agenda includes abolishing the Belka tax, reverting to the pre-Polish Deal health insurance contribution, raising the tax-free threshold, and implementing a flat PIT. Where will the funding originate?

– We should cut state expenditures, which would enable us to lower taxes – suggests Wojciech Machulski from the Confederation.

The PiS-supported candidate is also generous with his commitments. He confidently declares, in nearly every locality he visits, not only cheaper electricity but also reduced PIT, VAT, enhanced pension indexing, and support for entrepreneurial parents.

– Doctor Karol Nawrocki offers credible proposals, and if he claims he will execute them, he will follow through. His backing from Law and Justice indicates that this program will be a reliable one – asserts Józefa Szczurek-Żelazko from PiS.

No matter who assumes the presidency, they will not independently plunge the country into debt, since even if they wished to, they lack the legal authority to do so.

The presidential election is scheduled for May 18, with a possible runoff on June 1.
