Sunday April 27, 2025. Will stores be open?
On Sunday, April 27, the trading ban will be lifted. This allows all stores to operate.
On Sunday, April 27, retail stores are permitted to open; this marks the second shopping Sunday of the month. Upcoming shopping Sundays include: June 29, August 31, December 7, December 14, and December 21.
Sunday Trading Ban: Multiple Exceptions
The legislation that gradually implemented the Sunday trading ban took effect on March 1, 2018. Starting from 2020, the trading prohibition applies only to seven Sundays each year: the final Sundays of January, April, June, and August, in addition to the Sunday before Easter, and following an amendment, the three consecutive Sundays leading up to Christmas.
The law limiting Sunday trading includes a list of 32 exceptions. Notably, the ban does not extend to postal services if the revenue from this service accounts for at least 40% of the facility’s total sales. It also excludes confectioneries, ice cream shops, fuel stations, flower stores, newsstands, and cafés.
Sunday shopping in 2025Violating the Sunday trading ban can lead to a fine ranging from PLN 1,000 to PLN 100,000, and in cases of repeated offenses, a penalty of restriction of liberty may be imposed.

Another shopping Sunday and a free Christmas Eve
As of February 1, an amendment came into effect, designating December 24 as a day off for all workers, including those in retail, for whom this day was previously a working day until 2 p.m. under the Act on Restrictions on Sunday and Holiday Trading. This year, the three Sundays leading up to Christmas Eve will be trading days. The amendment also stipulates that in December, a retail employee cannot work on more than two Sundays.
At the end of December last year, President Andrzej Duda opted to refer the act regarding a free Christmas Eve to the Constitutional Tribunal for further evaluation. The president’s concerns center around the addition of a third, extra working Sunday in December for retail employees.
