The European Court of Justice imposes a fine on Poland. It concerns copyright issues related to internet broadcasts.

The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) announced on Thursday that Poland is required to pay a fine of €8.3 million due to delays in implementing EU copyright directives for certain online broadcasts.
EU regulations were expected to be enacted by June 2021; however, Poland only put the necessary laws into effect in 2024. The CJEU concluded that the nation had not fulfilled its responsibilities, and the reasons presented regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and public consultations were insufficient to excuse the delay.
The European Commission, which initiated the complaint, stressed that the postponement hindered creators and broadcasters from taking advantage of the new regulations on accessing online content within the European Union. The Court concurred and imposed a financial sanction on Poland.
