According to the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Zofia and Nikodem were the most popular names chosen by parents for their children in the first half of 2025, as announced on Tuesday. Renata and Franek ranked among the least popular names.

The Ministry of Digital Affairs highlighted that the yearly ranking of the most favored names given by parents, along with unique and rare options, is available on the website dane.gov.pl.

Maja drops from the top

This year’s most popular names for girls included: Zofia (2,117 babies, rising from 2nd place), Maja (1,946, falling from 1st place), Zuzanna (1,864), Laura (1,791), Hanna (1,610), Julia (1,590), Oliwia (1,463), Pola (1,334), Alicja (1,307), and Amelia (1,224, newly entering the top 10). The Ministry of Digital Affairs noted that the name Zofia, which translates to „wisdom” in Greek, has maintained „steady popularity” over the years. In 2024, it was the second most favored name for girls. Names like Pola, Antonina, and Michalina also gained popularity, as indicated by the Ministry of Digital Affairs, which noted their combination of „originality and a classic feel.” The least commonly given names this year included Renata, Angelika, Bogumiła, Marzena, Jolanta, and Żaneta.

Nikodem takes the lead

For boys, the top names are Nikodem (2,777), Antoni (2,461), Jan (2,373), Leon (2,237, rising from 5th place), Aleksander (2,192, dropping from 4th place), Franciszek (2,171), Ignacy (2,032), Stanisław (1,703, moving up to 9th place), Jakub (1,667, falling from 8th place), and Mikołaj (1,511). Nikodem, meaning „he who conquers for the people” in Greek, was also the most popular name for boys in 2024 and 2023. The least common names for boys were Bartek, Ireneusz, Jarosław, Miguel, Tycjan, and Vito. „In the first half of 2025, parents chose a blend of traditional and modern names,” the Ministry of Digital Affairs noted.
