Trump's decision, the Polish Post Office responds by suspending shipments of goods to the USA.

The Polish Post Office will temporarily halt the acceptance of shipments containing goods headed to the United States beginning Monday, as announced by the operator on Friday. Correspondence and documents will continue to be accepted. As of August 29, exemptions from duties and taxes for goods sent to the United States valued at under $800 will no longer be in effect.
As stated by Poczta Polska, the upcoming expiration of the U.S. presidential regulation „suspending the de minimis duty exemption for all nations” impacts the entire European Union, and as a result, starting August 25, Poczta Polska „is compelled to (…) temporarily restrict the acceptance of parcels containing goods intended for the United States.”
The restriction will be applicable to shipments of goods, which includes postal and letter items with declared value, both unregistered and registered letters, as well as Global Ekspress and EMS shipments.
It will remain possible to send both unregistered and registered letters that do not contain goods, as only correspondence and documents will be allowed. EMS shipments that include documents will also be accepted.
The Polish Post Office is not alone
The post office noted that numerous other postal services across Europe have implemented similar restrictions.
It referenced a statement from PostEurop, representing European postal operators, which indicated that this measure would significantly affect all postal companies globally and their customers sending mail through postal networks to the United States Postal Service (USPS).
„Crucial issues and processes, including customs collection, data gathering, and collaboration with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, have yet to be clearly outlined. Until now, goods valued up to $800 were exempt from customs duties. From August 29, all shipments of goods will incur customs duties in the U.S., regardless of their value or country of origin,” PostEurop stated, as referenced in a communication from the Polish Post.
Recently, postal services from Sweden, Denmark, and Norway declared that they would cease accepting parcels to the USA starting Saturday.
Customs duty declaration
On August 21, an agreement was reached between the EU and the US regarding a tariff statement. This agreement indicates that most goods imported from the EU will incur a 15% tariff. Higher tariffs will be imposed on alcohol, among other products, while lower tariffs will be applied to generic medications, aircraft, and aircraft components.
The Polish operator affirmed that it is continuously monitoring the situation and will resume accepting shipments of goods to the USA when feasible.
The exemption from taxes and duties on goods valued up to $800 was revoked by Trump’s decision in February. However, it was promptly suspended following appeals from businesses.
Poczta Polska, a state-owned entity, stands as the largest postal operator in the domestic sector. Its network comprises 7,600 branches, subsidiaries, and postal agencies throughout Poland. According to the company, over 90% of Poles utilize its services.
