Windmills on Land: The Problem with the Government's New Proposal
Companies involved in onshore wind energy are not necessarily awaiting the reduction of the minimum distance for wind turbines from structures, currently set at 700 meters, to 500 meters. Meanwhile, the government retains hope that the legislation addressing this matter will be enacted – reports „Puls Biznesu” on Wednesday.
The daily publication highlights that the annual conference of the Polish Wind Energy Association commenced in Świnoujście on Tuesday. Approximately two thousand attendees include representatives from firms investing in both onshore and offshore wind farms, as well as consulting agencies and think tanks.
The newspaper emphasizes that although the conference began just before the confidence vote in the government, discussions regarding the potential implications of this vote were minimal. However, one topic of conversation was Karol Nawrocki’s success in the presidential elections and the possibility of his veto against the amendment to the so-called wind farm law. This pertains to a proposal put forward by the government, which has already been submitted to the Sejm, aiming to decrease the minimum separation distance for wind farms from buildings from 700 to 500 meters – the daily notes.
Investors are not enthusiastic
As observed by „PB”, there were whispers that the government might seek to pass the bill to President Andrzej Duda. Conversely, it appears that investors within the wind sector are not particularly excited about the proposed amendment. This is due to the fact that the reduction of the distance to 500 meters comes with conditions that are challenging to fulfill.
– With large wind turbines, boasting a capacity of 7 MW, it is challenging to maintain a distance of less than 700 meters because of noise concerns – a source from the industry informs „PB”. Another industry expert compares the noise produced by such a turbine to that of a refrigerator located 700 meters away, and at 500 meters, it resembles that of a freight elevator.
