Embraer on LOT's decision: E2 more efficient and cheaper to operate

We acknowledge the decision made by LOT Polish Airlines, yet we maintain that the E2 aircraft remains the optimal option – Embraer remarked following the Polish airline’s announcement regarding its choice of Airbus aircraft.
In its statement, the Brazilian manufacturer highlighted that its E2 family of aircraft is 13 percent more efficient and aligns better with LOT’s present fleet, which consists of Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft. „The complete compatibility of our jets with LOT’s existing fleet would result in savings of millions of euros when transitioning to the new aircraft type,” it was stated.
Embraer’s perspective on the tender
Embraer also touched upon the broader implications of purchasing choices. „We recognize that we are living in unique times, where geopolitical factors have significant influence,” it stated.
The manufacturer expressed its dedication to ongoing collaboration with LOT and will persist in supporting the Polish airline in maintaining its current fleet. „LOT is a treasured partner for Embraer, and we take pride in the robust relationships we have cultivated over the years,” it emphasized.
The announcement further noted that Embraer is actively expanding its operations in commercial aviation, defense, and private jet sectors, experiencing “unprecedented growth.”
LOT’s commitment to Airbus
Officials from PLL LOT and Airbus formalized a contract in Paris for the delivery of 40 A220 aircraft in two configurations: -100 and -300 for the years 2027-2031, along with an option to purchase an additional 44 aircraft. The initial aircraft is set to join the fleet in 2027, and ultimately, the fleet designated for regional services, following the retirement of older aircraft, will exclusively comprise Airbus A220-100 and -300 models. According to LOT, the list price for the acquired aircraft is approximately USD 9 billion.
At present, 47 out of 86 aircraft operated by LOT are Embraer E-Jets. The Polish airline operates five E170s, fifteen E175s (including two designated for government use), eight E190s, sixteen E195s, and three E195-E257s, the latter of which joined LOT’s fleet in July 2024. The remaining aircraft in the Polish carrier’s fleet are American Boeing models.
