Alimony Table. Government Spokesperson on the Ministry of Justice’s Withdrawal from the tvn24 Project

The child support tables have been removed from the Ministry of Justice’s website. „They are intended to be supportive, not contentious. We will reassess them,” stated Zuzanna Rudzińska-Bluszcz, Deputy Minister of Justice, on Platform X.

„The purpose of the child support tables is to assist, not to create disputes. The welfare of the child is our priority, but we must also acknowledge the perspectives of parents,” wrote the 10th deputy minister.

„We will consider your feedback and reevaluate them, and we will once again engage with experts and social organizations for consultation,” Zuzanna Rudzińska-Bluszcz added.

Alimony tables

Recently, the Ministry of Justice revealed plans for the creation of alimony tables, which were to be distributed to all appellate courts nationwide. The objective was to aid judges in making decisions on alimony matters. The ministry believed this would help expedite the legal process.

The figures in the table were intended to represent the estimated monthly expenses necessary to satisfy the basic needs of the dependent individual, encompassing food, housing, education, culture, health, hygiene, transportation, communication, and other reasonable costs.

The child support table included standard monthly payment amounts, calculated using three primary factors: the income of the person responsible for paying child support, the age of the child, and the number of children for whom support is owed.

The Ministry highlighted that the table does not restrict family judges from tailoring the child support amount to meet the specific needs of an individual child and the financial situation of the parent, emphasizing that each case is evaluated on its own merits.

Controversy over the tables

The child support tables released by the Ministry of Justice faced criticism online. They were accused of, among other things, neglecting to differentiate between gross and net income, which could result in exaggerated child support figures.

Critics also noted that the defined income brackets do not accurately represent real-life circumstances.
