– We stated: „arms and security, this is our priority.” On March 6, the European Union will endorse very specific initiatives, amounting to billions, for its own military supplies, for the protection of the Polish border with Russia, and for aiding Ukraine – remarked Prime Minister Donald Tusk in „Fakty po Faktach,” highlighting that the EU „has embraced the Polish agenda.”

Prime Minister Tusk asserted that the European Union „has indeed embraced the Polish agenda regarding security issues, and this is no exaggeration.”

– We stated: „arms and security, this is our priority.” On March 6, the European Union will endorse very specific initiatives, worth billions, for its own military supplies, for the defense of the Polish border with Russia, and for aiding Ukraine. We discussed the energy union, emphasizing the need for affordable energy and a unified energy policy – they are convinced of this. We should reconsider the Green Deal concerning these contentious provisions: adopted – the leader of the Polish government highlighted.

Who will be most affected by US tariffs?

Tusk was also inquired about the EU’s response to Donald Trump’s announcement regarding tariffs on European goods. He responded that „the decisions in this matter rest with the European Commission.”

– This is beneficial because it eliminates the need for discussions or approvals. The Commission will take such decisions, as it is within its jurisdiction. The reaction was swift, indicating that the Commission will seek appropriate and proportional responses and tools to counter this announcement – the Prime Minister noted.

– Let us remember that President Trump has the ability to make and retract such tariff announcements. However, in the case of Canada, for instance, he retracted and adjusted his stance when Canada informed him that its response could be quite significant. This serves as a lesson for all leaders in Europe – he assessed.

Nevertheless, Donald Trump confirmed on February 27 that the tariffs on Canada would take effect on March 4.

European Trump fans may be surprised

The Prime Minister highlighted that in dealings with President Trump, „a fundamental political lesson emerges: you must respect the strong and the tough.”

– We must treat our partners, particularly allies, with utmost respect and reverence. However, we must also maintain our dignity, hold our heads high, and recognize our worth – Tusk emphasized.

The head of the Polish government mentioned that he promptly requested a report indicating „who will be the most affected by potential American tariffs.”

– How much is our (Polish – ed.) industry at risk? It will undoubtedly be challenging, as we collaborate, especially in the automotive sector. In terms of magnitude, the impact will not surpass 0.1 (percent – ed.) of Poland’s GDP. We will feel some effects, but it will not be severe – he assessed.

The Prime Minister believes that „any prospective US tariffs will primarily disadvantage Hungary and Slovakia.”

– This is the irony and mockery of history and politics. Moreover, to interpret President Trump accurately, he may claim that Viktor Orban is his greatest ally. Yet when he makes decisions based on his interests, business, and certain transactions, these allies tend to become a little less significant – he concluded.

During a meeting on January 21, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico expressed that the actions of the new US President Donald Trump were inspiring and that their own political behavior was gaining importance.

The prime ministers of Hungary and Slovakia remarked then that with the onset of Donald Trump’s presidency, they represent the political mainstream. „We are the mainstream,” stated Viktor Orban. Robert Fico declared that, like Donald Trump, he wishes to include a declaration in the constitution asserting that there are only two genders. What about Russian assets?

When asked about the frozen Russian assets and whether he believes this money should be allocated to Ukraine and in what form, Tusk replied that there was „general consensus” on this matter, but it remained uncertain whether it would be executed.

– At this point, I would estimate that there is no more than a 50 percent likelihood of this occurring, as some countries within the European Union, and I am also uncertain about the American stance on this issue, are apprehensive about certain negative repercussions – the head of government stressed.

Prime Minister Tusk asserted that „some politicians in certain European nations, very clearly in Washington, are primarily focused on restoring relations with Russia as soon as possible – I view this as one of the greatest risks.”

According to the Prime Minister, reallocating these funds to Ukraine would represent „a significant step toward enhancing Ukraine’s ability to continue its resistance and secure improved conditions for peace at the expense of Russia.”

– I am certain that this would be a favorable move, evident from
