Russian wood floods European market TVN24

The Ministry of Climate and Environment has confirmed that it does not intend to impose a prohibition on the use of wood for heating in homes. It clarified that the regulation concerning the qualitative and dimensional specifications of energy wood is relevant solely to what is termed professional energy, which refers to the energy sector.

On Thursday, the Ministry of Climate and Environment (MKiŚ) stated that the regulation regarding specific qualitative and dimensional attributes of energy wood does not establish a ban on burning wood in private households or stoves.

„The regulation does not pertain to households”

The ministry noted that energy wood is a type of raw wood that is not suitable for industrial applications or has limited uses in the non-energy sector. The regulation will categorize this raw material into two classifications: round wood and non-round wood.

„This regulation does not concern households, but rather the so-called professional energy, which encompasses the energy sector. This term refers to processes involving the large-scale production, transmission, and distribution of electricity,” the Ministry of Climate emphasized.

It clarified that this primarily pertains to the functioning of power plants, combined heat and power facilities, as well as transmission and distribution networks that deliver energy to residential, industrial, and institutional consumers across the nation. „It represents an organized and regulated system that guarantees a steady supply of energy necessary for the economy and society,” it added.

„The regulations, therefore, do not impose a ban”

The Ministry stressed that the term energy wood does not equate to firewood. „Consequently, the regulations do not place a prohibition on burning wood in private households or stoves,” the ministry concluded.

The Ministry of Climate and Environment also mentioned that the regulation was enacted in accordance with the authority provided by the Act on Renewable Energy Sources, which pertains to the production of electricity and heat in RES installations.

„The primary objective of the regulation is to address the issue of burning wood in professional energy that could be utilized industrially in a more economically favorable manner,” it stated.
