The prosecutor has requested and taken documents related to the Monetary Policy Council, as reported by the National Bank of Poland. The bank stressed that the actions of the prosecutor’s office were „inappropriate to its intended purpose and nature, inconsistent with procedural economy principles, and did not align with the established standards of conduct.”

„The National Bank of Poland hereby announces that on June 12, 2025, in connection with an investigation into the suspicion of disclosing classified information labeled 'secret’, Mr. Andrzej Piaseczny, Prosecutor of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw, along with three police officers, at the central bank’s headquarters, requested and obtained certain documents concerning the Monetary Policy Council,” stated the NBP in a formal announcement.

It was further mentioned that „the action undertaken by the Prosecutor’s Office was inadequate to its intended purpose and nature, inconsistent with the principles of procedural economy, and did not correspond to the standard procedures followed in similar cases.”

The statement noted that „the central bank is a transparent institution, operating within the framework of the law” and „all requested documents were prepared and will be made available in the appropriate format and manner.”

„The National Bank of Poland will notify the European Central Bank regarding the situation, considering that the documents involved are protected by legal confidentiality related to the workings of the Monetary Policy Council,” the NBP indicated.

Two refusals

The District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw confirmed to PAP on Thursday that a prosecutor visited the NBP headquarters and seized relevant documentation. Prosecutor Izabela Dołgań-Szymańska stated that in connection with the preparatory proceedings, the prosecutor’s office had made two requests to the authorities of the National Bank of Poland for documentation necessary for fact-finding in the investigation.

However, as Prosecutor Dołgań-Szymańska reported, due to the two refusals to grant access to the requested documentation, the prosecutor seized the documents for official custody based on the relevant provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

She also pointed out that „no representative of the National Bank of Poland raised any objections to the minutes of these actions.” She added that the prosecutor’s office will provide updates on any further actions in subsequent announcements.
