Shortened working hours. Minister Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk on the principles of the TVN24 pilot program.

The topic of reduced working hours has been a subject of conversation for quite some time. Numerous proposals are being considered, but which ones do the Polish people favor? A survey carried out by Research Partner on the Ariadna Research Panel indicates that 57 percent of participants „definitely” endorse a four-day workweek. Concurrently, 70 percent of those surveyed believe that employers will attempt to lower wages.

In late June, the Ministry of Family, Labor, and Social Policy revealed the criteria for selecting companies to take part in the short-time work pilot initiative. The application period will run from August 14th to September 15th of this year.

Four-day work week

Both governmental and private organizations will have the opportunity to apply for the pilot program. A declaration and commitment will be necessary to ensure that employees will not experience any salary reductions during the course of the pilot. A poll conducted by Research Partner on the Ariadna Research Panel indicates that 57% of respondents consider a four-day workweek to be the most favorable option.

Seventeen percent of respondents feel that a reduction in working hours from eight to seven and a half hours would be more beneficial, while 26% opted for the „hard to say” response.

Shorter working hours, lower earnings

When posed with the question: „Do you believe employers will, regardless of the situation, try to decrease employee earnings if short-time work is implemented?” 28% of those surveyed answered „definitely yes,” and 42% answered „probably yes,” resulting in a total of 70% affirmatives. Nine percent of respondents provided negative responses (8% „probably not,” 1% „definitely not”). Twenty-one percent found it difficult to decide. The survey was conducted by Research Partner on the Ariadna Research Panel from August 1 to August 4, 2025, involving a nationwide sample of 1,040 individuals aged 18 and older, selected based on gender, age, and town of residence representation in the Polish demographic.
